INTRODUCTION
Occupational health hazards are a big problem especially among nurses who constitute the
biggest percentage of health care workers and are in constant touch with the patients.
Uganda is excellently suited to hold this conference since it has a lot of experience to share in the field of Occupational Health Hazards. Recently, the ebola epidemic between October 2000 and January 2001 claimed the lives of 17 nurses, 3 student nurses and 1 medical doctor at Lacor Hospital in Gulu.
Although Uganda has successfully recovered from this disaster, there is need to share the strategies that were used so that the world community can learn from Uganda's experience.
GOAL
It is hoped that by the of this conference the participants will be
equipped with adequate information about OHH, the necessary knowledge
and skills to prevent, control and manage OHH. This will, in turn,
enable the participants to protect themselves while caring for patients
, families, and the communities in their respective districts.
This will significantly reduce the incidence of injury and disease among nurses and hence reduce morbidity and mortality from OHH.
